Kesennuma Choi-nozoki 気仙沼ちょいのぞき
This is a collection of local-tourism events that take place one weekend per month in Kesennuma. These events offer a chance to get a glimpse into the local fishing / food production industries and might include activities such as taking part in oyster harvesting, going out on a ship to collect wakame, or touring a commercial-grade ice production facility. The events are seasonal, and change month-to-month. The flyers for Choi-Nozoki will be floating around town, so keep an eye out for them. You’ll need to make reservations in advance for the events, either by phone or online.
Kiraku-kai 気楽会
This is a special local-tourism event that takes place once a month during the spring and summer months. The activities vary from month to month, but generally, this is a walking tour provided by local volunteers. You’ll get a chance to explore the town on foot, and maybe hear the stories of some residents and small business owners. The great thing about Kiraku-kai is that it offers you a chance to explore places that you might pass all the time on your way to work but have never given a second thought. All in all, it’s a super laid-back vibe, and I’d definitely recommend it.
