This is the main recreation center in Kesennuma. Inside, they have training equipment an indoor track for running, and a multipurpose court for playing basketball, volleyball, badminton, etc. There are also tatami rooms in the facility for martial arts. If you walk in and ask at the reception desk, they can tell you about the activity schedule for the month. For the training room and basketball, there is an activity fee of 100 yen (?). In addition K-Wave requires that you take a crash course on using the equipment before you can utilize the training room. You might be able to talk your way out of this if you tell them that you’ve worked out at Motoyoshi Taiikukan before. The training course only seems to be offered a few times a month, so it might be a bit of a nuisance to make time for it. K-Wave also has a small skate park and an outdoor basketball court that you can use, free of charge. As far as I know, you don’t even need to get staff permission to use it. (I never have, anyway)

A little further south in Kesennuma, this gym is located in Tsuya, the largest village of Motoyoshi. You can easily get a membership card and pay about 100 yen for usage of equipment and/or the weight room, which, unlike K-Wave, doesn’t demand some hour of your life to learn how to use machines you probably already know how to use. The gym has a bare bones weight lifting room, with a primitive bench for bench press and squat rack. There are some dumbbells and weight machines as well as treadmills. If you want to punch something, there’s also a sandbag. There is a big arena where people can play basketball, volleyball, table tennis, or anything the gym has equipment for, so long as there is not any time conflicts with groups. Students from all over use this gym periodically for practice and there may be some competitions here from time to time. Karate is also offered here, but unless you have 0 experience, you may want to go to K-Wave instead. Sometimes the gym has “youth events” (with an age cap of 35) which attempts to gather the very spread out young population which uses the gym. Events include bowling, karaoke night, latte art, etc. Sometimes there are also interesting exercise programs like boxercising.

One of the two karaokes in town. Crayon is newer and has a better-looking facility, but is slightly more expensive. You also have the option of choosing an all-you-can eat/drink course where you’ll have freedom to choose whatever you like from the buffet and drink bar. The good thing is that you DON’T need to take off your shoes.

Bowling alley which was recently rebuilt in Kesennuma. Bowling is on the first floor, billiards and darts are on the second. For bowling and billiards, you’ll have to pay by the hour (I think), the electronic darts machines however, are coin-operated and you can use them as you like.
